Biography
The Shacks blend crafty, laid-back psychedelia with dreamy bedroom pop under the direction of an enigmatic pair: guitarist and songwriter Max Shrager alongside singer Shannon Wise. Shrager had already built a reputation as a writer and producer while still in his teens, spending several years at Daptone and Dunham Records before releasing his own recordings on the similarly retro-vibed Big Crown Records. Wise brings her own musical lineage, evoking the warm, hushed tones of Margo Guryan and Jane Birkin in a manner that undercuts her youth. In collaboration with producer Leon Michels, the group released a self-titled seven-song debut EP in 2016. Several singles appeared afterward, leading to Big Crown’s issuance of their debut full-length album, Haze, in 2018.
