The punk rock outfit the Stryder unites Peter Toh on guitar, Scottie Redix behind the drums, Nick Wendell on bass, and John Johansen handling vocals. Raised together in one Long Island, NY neighborhood, the four had performed in separate groups from childhood onward. Toh and Redix first assembled Yearly, but after bassist Eben d'Amico departed for Saves the Day they rebuilt the project as the Stryder with Wendell and Johansen now aboard. The band names Green Day and Operation Ivy among the acts that shaped its sound. A two-song 7" titled The Hits Just Keep on Comin'... on Elkion served as the debut, followed by the full-length Masquerade in the Key of Crime, which Equal Vision released in September 2000. Johansen left before sessions for the next album began, prompting Redix to switch to guitar and share vocals with Toh while ex-Glassjaw drummer Durijah Lang took over the kit. Jungle City Twitch arrived in July 2002. The Savor the Danger! EP closed out the year, collecting older tracks still featuring Johansen on vocals plus the songs from the Hits EP. The Stryder had nevertheless disbanded by early 2003. Toh later issued solo material, including the Cleopatra EP on Elkion in 2004 and Shoes of a Beast on Hidden Track in 2006.
