Biography
The von Trapps, comprising siblings Sofie, Melanie, Amanda, and August, descend directly from Werner von Trapp, Georg and Agathe von Trapp’s second-oldest son whose family story supplied the basis for The Sound of Music. Early on, the siblings entered the family tradition by appearing in the 1997 stage production of that musical; subsequent television engagements included The View, The Today Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show, while orchestral bookings took them before the Boston Pops as well as the Atlanta, Detroit, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati symphonies. Longtime associates of the shape-shifting chamber-pop ensemble Pink Martini, they joined that group for the 2014 release Dream a Little Dream. Shaped by the Beach Boys, Fleet Foxes, and Françoise Hardy, the Portland, Oregon quartet issued its own 2015 EP, Dancing in Gold. Crafted under the guidance of Blind Pilot’s Israel Nebeker, the six-track set inaugurated a projected trilogy, the remaining two installments slated for release across the following two years.
