Biography
David Champagne, previously the vocalist for both Shane Champagne and Pink Cadillac, fronted Massachusetts quartet Treat Her Right, a group whose sound blended rock & roll, rockabilly, blues-rock, and swamp-rock while carrying an underlying post-punk sensibility. He also displayed an affinity for avant-garde cover material, among them pieces originally recorded by James Blood Ulmer and Captain Beefheart. The band issued its first album in 1986, while the 1989 follow-up Tied to the Tracks spotlighted bassist Mark Sandman taking lead vocals on multiple tracks. After Treat Her Right disbanded, Sandman assembled the bass/sax/drums trio Morphine.
