Australian artist Daniel Rankine, recording as trials, transitioned from his earlier roles as a producer and group member into a solo rap career. His debut solo release came in 2020 via the energetic yet depressive emo-rap single "I'm a Fucking Wreck."

Rankine entered the Australian rap scene during the late '90s through his membership in the three-person crew Funkoars. Serving simultaneously as producer and emcee—sometimes listed under the credit Mr. Trials—he contributed to Funkoars' riled-up golden-era hip-hop tracks. While Funkoars continued operating, he expanded his production work across projects by Hilltop Hoods, Briggs, Cross Bred Mongrels, and additional artists. Over time he extended into film and television scoring, handling music for two seasons of the Australian TV drama Cleverman plus the 2017 Netflix film Cargo. He also formed half of the hip-hop duo A.B. Original, whose 2016 debut album Reclaim Australia reached the Australian Top Ten. In 2020 he issued his first fully solo single, the downtrodden and self-depreciating "I'm a Fucking Wreck" featuring Daniyel.
