Biography
Leisha Hailey gained prominence portraying Alice Pieszecki in the Showtime series The L Word. She also fronted the electro-pop project Uh Huh Her, which gained traction in independent music circles after issuing its first album during 2007. Previously a member of the Murmurs, a duo known for its jangly sound reminiscent of the Indigo Girls, Hailey opted to resume her musical pursuits after a five-year hiatus. Early in 2007 she met Camila Grey, who played bass and keyboards with Mellowdrone, and the two formed an immediate connection. They adopted the name Uh Huh Her, drawn from PJ Harvey’s chart-topping album of 2004. Settling into Grey’s Los Angeles residence, the pair produced their initial full-length effort, I See Red. This atmospheric release drew from the nighttime, synth-driven electronic style associated with Metric and Ladytron, while extending Hailey’s foundation in alternative rock. Plaid issued the album later in the year. August 2008 saw the appearance of their follow-up, Common Reaction, through RCA.
