Biography
Rubblebucket came together in Brooklyn during 2007 as a lively indie pop dance outfit whose reggae-pop background informed a taste for worldbeat and ska-tinged arrangements that evoke Vampire Weekend, Brazilian Girls, Passion Pit, and Dirty Projectors. Musical partners Alex Toth on trumpet and Kalmia Traver on vocals and saxophone launched the group after stepping away from East Coast roots reggae futurists John Brown's Body. They put out their first album, Rose's Dream, in 2008 under the Rubblebucket Orchestra name and promptly began touring. The self-titled Rubblebucket appeared in 2009, at which time the band abandoned the Orchestra suffix while the lineup continued to expand. Momentum built sharply with the 2011 arrival of their third album, the widely praised Omega La La, which secured a performance slot on Jimmy Kimmel Live and placed the song "Came Out of a Lady" in the indie film Drinking Buddies. The EPs Oversaturated and Save Charlie, issued in 2012 and 2013, respectively, heightened their profile and led to the 2014 Communion Records full-length Survival Sounds together with the Carousel Ride EP. In 2017 the band released the If U C My Enemies EP on its own So Sensation Records. A year later Grand Jury Music announced a partnership that brought out Rubblebucket's fourth album, Sun Machine, that August.
