Biography

The French ensemble Uman weaves Enya and Cocteau Twins-style ethereality together with Enigma/Deep Forest-esque ethnic dance fusions and ambient electronics. Core membership consists of siblings Didier on keyboards and Danielle Jean on vocals, along with frequent collaborator Zad. The group made its first recorded appearances in France in 1992, releasing two albums domestically ahead of any U.S. exposure, with stateside listeners encountering Purple Passage in 1997 and You Are Here in 1999.
