Biography
Vanessa Amara surfaced from Denmark’s thriving electronic and experimental underground, achieving early visibility in 2013 via a debut issued on Posh Isolation. Their limited-edition cassette-only title Both of Us merged contemporary classical passages with droning electronics shaped by church organs and ominous synths. Formed by Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen and Victor Kjellerup Juhl, the experimental duo maintained a restrained presence while presenting their second outing, You’re Welcome Here, in 2016. On that album they constructed the material from a broad instrumental palette, placing cellos, violins, and trombones alongside organs. The following year brought the double-cassette release Like All Mornings, which incorporated Sebastián Santillana and signaled a sharper turn toward minimalism built solely from piano loops and feedback. Also in 2017 the duo gave their first live performance at Copenhagen’s Koncertkirken. Returning to Posh Isolation in 2018, they delivered Manos as their fourth full-length work.
