Biography
Established in 2014 by Kyle Morgan of Ash Borer alongside Michael Rekevics, Vanum emerged as an atmospheric black metal outfit drawing from roots in both New Mexico and New York. The group blends icy Scandinavian-style black metal with muscular traditional metal and majestic symphonic metal, releasing their debut album Realm of Sacrifice in 2015. Two years afterward came the EP Burning Arrow, and in 2019 the sharply focused and dynamic Ageless Fire followed as the band’s initial release on Profound Lore Records. That LP introduced the studio work of longtime live members Luke Sheppard and E. Priesner. Vanum returned in 2022 with their third full-length, the morose and melancholic Legend, which recalled the primal black metal stylings of bands like Bathory and Immortal.
