Biography
Vegedream serves as the performing alias for Sachtela Evrard Djedje, an Ivorian-descended French vocalist whose output fuses rap, R&B, and Afro-pop with fervent energy and occasional heavy use of Auto-Tune. The 2018 football anthem “Ramenez la coupe à la maison,” which reached the summit of the French singles chart, accounts for his greatest visibility, while the 2019 album Ategban and partnerships including those with Ninho and Joé Dwet Filé have also registered strongly.
Although born in Orléans, France, Djedje passed part of his youth in Gagnoa, Ivory Coast—the birthplace of his father. At eighteen he entered music through the French rap collective la Synésia, assembled in the early 2010s; the group secured a Universal contract and delivered its full-length Conquête du Trône in 2017. That same year Djedje stepped out alone, adopting the Vegedream moniker in tribute to the Dragon Ball figure Vegeta. After the preliminary tracks “Obscure” and “La fuite,” he unveiled the mixtape Marchand de sable.
Prompted by France’s triumph at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he issued “Ramenez la coupe à la maison” in July; the cut claimed the top chart position and embedded itself indelibly in national popular consciousness. An expanded sequel, Marchand de sable 2, closed out the year. Ategban, his first studio album, followed in 2019 and entered the French Top Ten, buoyed by the Ninho-assisted “Elle est bonne sa mère,” which climbed to number two. Additional singles appeared across 2020, among them “Juste une fois” and the Tayc collaboration “Pour nous.”
