Biography
Vikesh Kapoor, a twenty-first-century folksinger and songwriter working within the populist lineage of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, spent his formative years in rural Pennsylvania. An unplanned trek across the United States awakened his vocation, culminating in a vocal performance at a Boston memorial service honoring Howard Zinn. Deeply affected by Zinn’s sustained efforts to dismantle class and racial inequities, Kapoor—who had settled in Portland, Oregon—composed and tracked the loose concept album The Ballad of Willy Robbins, a work centered on the working class’s pursuit of a decent livelihood. Issued in fall 2013 by Mama Bird Recording Co., the recording was co-produced by Kapoor and Adam Selzer.
