Biography
Having grown up in Long Beach surrounded by gospel music and street life, the Compton rapper Westside Boogie developed a style that placed him between Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper. After building underground momentum through much of the late 2010s, he secured a deal with Shady Records and delivered his first full-length project, Everything's for Sale, in 2019. Two years later came his more introspective second album, More Black Superheroes.
Born Anthony Dixson, he initially recorded simply as Boogie and unveiled his debut mixtape, Thirst 48, in 2014. The following year he issued The Reach, which contained the viral single "Oh My" produced by Jahlil Beats. As interest mounted, he released his third mixtape, Thirst 48 Part II, in 2016. By late 2017 Eminem had extended his endorsement, bringing Dixson onto the Shady Records roster. His first release for the label, the Masego collaboration "Violence," appeared that December. Several more singles followed in 2018 before Everything's for Sale arrived in January 2019, featuring JID on "Soho," tourmate 6lack on "Skydive II," and Eminem on "Rainy Days."
In 2020 he adopted the Westside Boogie stage name as a reference to his roots while also issuing a number of standalone tracks. One of the earliest was the Joey Bada$$ collaboration "Outside." He joined Malz Monday for "Tripping" the next year. His sophomore album, More Black Superheroes, surfaced in 2022 with appearances by Snoop Dogg, Soulja Boy, and Shelley FKA DRAM. Among its tracks was the single "Halfway Right" featuring Rapsody and Alex Isley.
