Biography
Wichy Camacho stands out for his crystal-clear singing and ranks among Puerto Rico’s most sought-after session vocalists. His credits encompass sessions alongside many of the island’s leading figures, among them Omar Alfanno, Johnny Caban, Ricardo Arjona, Celenia, Juan Carlos Coronel, Charlie Cruz, Carlos David, Descarga Boricua, Grupo Macambila, Freddy Gutierrez, Isidro Infante, Manny Manuel, Ismael Miranda, Carlos Nuno, and Lalo Rodríguez. His voice appears on the internationally successful 1997 album Contra la Corriente by Marc Anthony and on Miguel Antonio’s 1998 release Exclusivamente. He maintains an ongoing association with Eddie Palmieri’s band, both in the studio and on stage. Although Camacho completed his first solo project, Daria El Alma, in 1984, he spent the initial phase of his career largely as a background singer. From 1989 onward he worked with Luis Enrique’s ensemble, remaining until shortly after the 1995 release of his second solo album, Con la Romance. Even while sustaining a full schedule of session work, he has cultivated a parallel path as a solo artist; his third solo album, La Romance, appeared in 1996.
