Wisp envelops listeners in her distinctive take on shoegaze, merging crushing sonics with lighter-than-air vocals. Based in San Francisco, the artist rapidly built a following after her debut single “Your Face” accumulated millions of streams in 2023 and secured a contract with a major label. She refined her signature mix of Whirr- and Deftones-inspired crunch, lo-fi production, and breathy vocals reminiscent of Grouper across subsequent releases, including “Tangled Dreams” and the 2024 track “See You Soon.”
During her San Francisco upbringing, Wisp studied violin while nurturing a deep passion for music. Exposure to Whirr’s heavy shoegaze textures, alongside the work of Cocteau Twins and Deftones, prompted her to begin creating her own material. In early 2023 the then-18-year-old layered her voice—captured through earbuds—over a fuzzed-out instrumental from producer grayskies, titling the result “Your Face.” She posted the track to TikTok in April, where it drew 100,000 views within one day. Follow-up videos on the platform reached millions of views, and “Your Face” achieved comparable streaming traction. After inking a deal with Interscope, Wisp released her second single, “Tangled Dreams,” in May and unveiled the swooning love song “Once More Then We’ll Be Free” that October. She made her live debut later that year through several sold-out performances. Wisp launched 2024 with the January single “See You Soon” and joined Panchiko and They Are Gutting a Body of Water on tour.
