Emerging from Oita, Japan, Xinlisupreme—pronounced zinly supreme—fuses torrents of guitar distortion, propulsive rhythms, and electronic loops to reinterpret My Bloody Valentine, Suicide, and Aphex Twin, yielding an unpredictable genre-colliding aesthetic that veers between delicate and ferocious while staying wholly singular. Formed by Yasumi Okano and Takayuki Shouji, who switch between assorted instruments, the duo reached FatCat Records through an unsolicited demo; the imprint, already home to groundbreaking acts such as Sigur Rós, Múm, and Mice Parade, responded to the guitar-centric material by issuing the single All You Need Is Love Was Not True in January 2002. Their first album, Tomorrow Never Comes, followed in March 2002 on FatCat’s Splinter series.
