Among the West Indies' most successful female trios stands Zouk Machine. Guy Houllier and Yves Honoré, both from Experiment 7, assembled the group in 1986, and its 1990 release Maldòn quickly drew worldwide notice as a groundbreaking album. Personnel shifts have marked the ensemble repeatedly since its founding. The initial lineup brought together sisters Christiane Obydol and Dominique Zorobabel alongside Joëlle Ursull, yet Ursull's exit after six months ushered in an extended stretch when the act performed as a vocal duo. Jane Fostin's arrival in 1998 solidified the trio's signature sound, but her move to a solo career seven years afterward left Zouk Machine's prospects uncertain.
