Emerging among the earliest gangsta rap acts in California's Bay Area, the trio of Taydatay, Hennessy, and Maine-O known as 11/5 first appeared with the 1995 album Fiendin' 4 tha Funk on Dogday Records. That project contained the hit song "Brousin'" and was followed the next year by A-1 Yola, both sets produced by T.C., who had previously gained recognition for his work alongside RBL Posse. Later compilations titled Bootlegs & G-Sides assembled various tracks from the group's guest appearances on other releases. Even though 11/5 stood among the Bay Area's pioneering hardcore rap outfits, the act never attained the broad commercial success achieved by late-'90s peers such as Spice 1 and E-40.
