Biography
Formed as a duo pursuing their distinctive take on blues-infused roots rock, 7Horse emerged from the alternative rock outfit Dada, where Joie Calio and Phil Leavitt had already established themselves. Within 7Horse, Leavitt handles both drumming duties and lead vocals, while Calio switches from his Dada bass role to guitar. The pair initiated the project by exchanging song concepts during breaks in their Dada schedule, seeking an unpolished aesthetic and straightforward method. When Dada had unused studio time in 2011, Calio and Leavitt utilized it to produce their first record, Let the 7Horse Run. Following the album's launch, they first served as openers for Dada's concerts before embarking on their own club headline tours. Their visibility surged in 2013 after director Martin Scorsese featured the track "Meth Lab Zoso Sticker" in The Wolf of Wall Street, including its trailer and official soundtrack. This exposure introduced 7Horse to fresh listeners, leading to the 2014 follow-up Songs for a VooDoo Wedding, which delved further into country influences.
