Biography
Patrick Sweany launched his professional path playing solo acoustic blues before his style broadened into a foundation of funky blues-rock that sometimes drifted toward atmospheric, expansive textures. During his formative period he remained based in his home state of Ohio, yet 2006 brought a recording contract with Nine Mile Records and the start of steady studio output that gradually cultivated a devoted audience.
Born April 26, 1974, in the small community of Massillon, Ohio, roughly twenty miles south of Akron, Sweany entered the music profession during the late 1990s. He first established himself performing regularly at area blues festivals, then issued his debut album, I Wanna Tell You, on Ayao Records in 1999. Having moved from acoustic to electric instruments in 1991, he formed a band whose members included guitarist Dan Auerbach, who would later achieve renown fronting the Black Keys. He continued working the blues-club circuit, delivering the 2003 Ayao release henryfordbedroom.
The Nine Mile association began in 2006 with the album C'mon C'mere, produced by Auerbach, who also helmed 2008’s Every Hour Is a Dollar Gone. Sweany moved to Nashville in 2009 and followed with That Old Southern Drag in 2011. Streaming-platform exposure then accelerated his visibility, leading to Close to the Floor in 2013 and Daytime Turned to Nighttime in 2015. He further broadened his palette on the 2018 album Ancient Noise, tracked at Sam Phillips Recording.
