The progressive rock ensemble After Crying originated in Hungary during 1986, established by three classically educated musicians specializing in spontaneous chamber performances. Piano player Csaba Vedres, cellist Péter Pejtsik, and flutist Gábor Egervári formed the initial lineup before additional players integrated into the group. This collective evoked contemporary successors to Bartok by merging Emerson, Lake and Palmer's ballad style with the rhythmic cello drive reminiscent of the Electric Light Orchestra. Around the middle of the 1990s, their sonic palette broadened through the incorporation of guitars, keyboards, and drums. Observers have highlighted the band's symphonic echoes of King Crimson, evidenced by their complete rendition of In the Court of the Crimson King during a Budapest performance in 1993.
