Alison Sudol, an American singer/songwriter, musician, and actress, launched her recording and performing career in 2007. Working under the name A Fine Frenzy, she presented an elemental blend of folk, art rock, and indie pop. Three studio albums appeared to strong notices: One Cell in the Sea in 2007, Bomb in a Birdcage in 2009, and Pines in 2012. She then turned her full attention to acting, taking roles in popular television series as well as the Harry Potter prequels. In 2022 she resumed her musical work with the release of Still Come the Night, issued under her birth name.

Although born in Seattle, she moved with her mother at age five and grew up primarily in Los Angeles. As a teenager she began playing piano, drawing early inspiration for her whimsical, melody-driven songs from Coldplay and Keane. After completing several compositions and circulating the resulting demo, she received an immediate reply from Capitol Records executive Jason Flom, who visited her home to hear her perform live and soon offered a recording contract. In March 2007 she appeared at South by Southwest, supporting the Stooges, and around the same time adopted the stage name A Fine Frenzy, taken from a line in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. One Cell in the Sea, her debut full-length, followed that July.

Sudol expanded her reach that summer by opening for Rufus Wainwright. Experiences on the road broadened her listening, and upon returning she grew interested in the catalogs of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and the Talking Heads. These varied influences encouraged bolder songwriting choices, leading to the 2009 release of Bomb in a Birdcage, which explored a wider sonic palette. Before year’s end she also issued the holiday EP Oh Blue Christmas. Her third album, the lush and expansive Pines, arrived in 2012.

Acting became her sole focus beginning in 2013. She appeared in the series Transparent and the miniseries Dig, as well as the Harry Potter prequels Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). Still Come the Night surfaced the same year, an inward-looking collection recorded with London-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Chris Hyson that traced the stages of grief following the loss of her first baby during pregnancy.
