Biography
André van Duin, the Dutch comedian whose multifaceted career encompassed both television roles and popular music releases, achieved peak prominence throughout the mid- and late 1970s and 1980s. Born Adrianus Marinus Kyvon on February 20, 1947, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, he launched his professional path as a television actor during the mid-1960s. The 1970s brought opportunities to host his own television program while simultaneously developing a radio show. His recording career commenced in 1972 with the self-titled full-length debut André van Duin, which yielded the hit singles "Angelique" and "Het Bananenlied," the latter climbing into the Top Five on the Dutch singles chart. Additional Top Ten entries arrived in 1974 and 1975, among them "De Tamme Boerenzoon," "De Sambaballensamba," and "Doorgaan." His most substantial commercial breakthrough occurred in 1976 via the number-one smash "Willempie." Although these tracks aligned with his comedic persona, van Duin explored a more earnest approach on And're André (1977), initiating a five-volume sequence of albums largely free from novelty content. Top Ten placements continued through the 1980s with releases such as "Nederland die Heeft de Bal," "Als Je Huilt," and "De Heidezangers." The 1993 chart-topper "Het Pizzalied (Effe Wachte...)" marked the onset of declining activity, though further Top Ten successes followed, including "De Buurtsuper (Goedemorgen, Goedemiddag)" in 1995 and "Ayohee (Zo Ken Ie Wel Weer)" in 1997. After issuing Z'n Allergrootste Hits in 2001, van Duin stepped away from recording until the double-disc comeback effort Dubbel returned him to the Top Ten in 2010.
