Wilma is a rock trio featuring Amy Marshall on vocals and bass, guitarist Johnny Marshall, and drummer Paul Lobel, whose style echoes the '80s female-fronted alternative acts like the B-52's, Blondie, the Pretenders, and the Divinyls. The group traces its origins to the little-known Dallas, TX outfit Butch, founded in 1993 by Amy and Johnny, which generated significant local excitement. Seeking greater success prompted their relocation to New York City in 1995. After linking up with Lobel soon following that move, they discovered a shared musical vision in producer Jerry Halatyn, who mentored the emerging act and has continued to handle their productions ever since. Wilma's self-titled debut appeared in 1998, with the follow-up A Piece of Work arriving the next year on their own imprint, Circling Buzzard Records. Their third album, Rock the Box, came out in October 2001.
