Biography
Australian duo Oh Pep! blend layered lead vocals reminiscent of Lucius and Parlour Tricks into an indie pop style that balances immediate hooks with reflective depth. Traditional folk instruments regularly surface within their ensemble setups, and the pair issued their first full-length record, Stadium Cake, in 2016.
Pepita Emmerichs and Olivia Hally, who attended school together, established the group in Melbourne during 2009. A self-released, self-titled EP surfaced in 2012 and leaned more heavily toward folk textures, featuring upright bassist Stuart West, mandolinist Paddy Montgomery, and drummer Justin Olsson. The follow-up EP II appeared the next year. When Living reached listeners via Star House Collective in 2015, the official roster had reverted to the two principal songwriters, although both women continued employing additional musicians for recording and live performances.
Stadium Cake shifted toward a brighter pop orientation built around guitar and drums, while Emmerichs retained her roles on mandolin and violin; Dualtone Music handled its release in 2016. After signing with ATO Records, the duo returned in 2018 with I Wasn't Only Thinking About You, an album shaped by producer Joel Quartermain.
