Biography
Angela Johnson, identified as the First Lady of Purpose Music Group, works as a songwriter, producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist who belonged to Cooly's Hot Box, the New York collective that operated between the mid-'90s and the mid-2000s. The ensemble, routinely filed under acid jazz, landed multiple club successes and put out three albums, among them two full-length projects on the esteemed U.K. label Dome. Her distinguished series of mature solo R&B recordings for Purpose, also issued by Dome in the U.K., began with the 2002 album They Don't Know. Later releases comprised 2005's Got to Let It Go, 2008's A Woman's Touch, Vol. 1, 2011's It's Personal, and the 2012 remix compilation Revised, Edited & Flipped. Naturally Me arrived in 2014 and registered on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Apart from crafting her own songs, she has provided material for Takaka "Double" Hirasawa ("Angel"), Maysa ("All Day Long," "Day N Night"), and Conya Doss ("Emotions").
