Biography
Born in Lisbon in 1976 and 1980 respectively, Nelson and Sergio Rosado grew up determined to build careers as professional musicians. Their father’s musical background and their mother’s vocal ability led both brothers to begin studies at the national Academy of Music when Nelson was seven and Sergio eight; there Nelson concentrated on piano and accordion while Sergio focused on guitar. The pair made their first appearance together in 1988 and have rarely worked separately since. During their mid-teens they began receiving airplay and television exposure on local stations. After a short stint with the group Setimo Ceu they resumed performing strictly as a duo in 1998. In 1999 they fulfilled a long-held family ambition by issuing their debut album Ficarei, soon followed by the live recording Ao Vivo, both credited to the name Anjos; together the projects moved more than 200,000 units. Later studio efforts Espelho (2001) and Segredos (2003) achieved comparable sales and steadily broadened the duo’s audience across Portugal. Exhaustive road work behind each release fostered deep local loyalty, demonstrated when Segredos moved over 15,000 copies inside four days. Their fourth studio album, Alma, arrived in 2005 preceded by the single “A Vida Faz -- Me Bem,” a celebration of life’s simple gifts that quickly became an anthem for Portuguese youth. To acknowledge years of fan support the brothers staged major concerts at the Coliseus do Porto and in Lisbon; both performances were filmed and compiled on a live DVD issued in early 2007.
