Biography
Mike Varney, founder of Shrapnel Records, first envisioned Artension after receiving a demo from Vitalij Kuprij and Roger Staffelbach. The material represented their Atlantis Rising project, which inspired Varney to unite the pair with John West, Kevin Chown, and Mike Terrana. The resulting group took its name from a fusion of the words “art” and “tension,” issuing its debut album, Into the Eye of the Storm, before following up with Phoenix Rising.
