Majestic

North London native Kevin Christie, known professionally as Majestic, entered the dance-music circuit at age 15 as an MC at assorted U.K. garage events and on neighborhood pirate radio. At the same moment he began experimenting with production, yet he withheld most of those early tracks because he doubted their quality. His debut single, Kebab Riddim, finally surfaced in 2005, followed years later by the 2016 Topgear EP. Intentionally separating his vocal work from his studio output, he seldom placed his own voice on his records and instead spent the ensuing period hosting club nights and festivals throughout Europe. An unplanned encounter with the Wideboys led to the 2009 single In the VIP, a track that lampooned the exclusive-club circuit. He maintained a balance among DJ sets, production duties, and guest vocal appearances on other artists’ material, among them collaborations with Laidback Luke and Mickey Slim. In 2014 he placed production at the forefront with Creeping in the Dark, then issued a run of further singles over the next two years—Raised in the 90s, Hard, and the Break the Mould EP. His DJ credentials were showcased again when he curated the Pure House & Garage compilation in 2016. The year after that he supplied the singles Naughty Sesh and Bad Selection while also mixing Pure House & Garage, Vol. 2.
