Biography
Known for her dramatic songwriting and performances reminiscent of Regina Spektor and Rufus Wainwright, Astrid Swan created a stir among online music enthusiasts upon her appearance with the Minty Fresh label during the initial years of the 2000s. Finland was her birthplace, and her musical abilities became evident quite early; piano lessons commenced when she turned six, followed by forming her inaugural group, Fluff, at fifteen. An early fascination with English also took root; at seventeen, she resided for a year in Ann Arbor, MI, and there she performed at open-mic nights for the first time. Having provided backing vocals to the Finnish ensemble Treeball over multiple years, she then collaborated with producer Nick Triani to capture her compositions. The United States saw the 2007 launch of her debut album Poverina, characterized by its delicate, piano-driven indie pop sound.
