A Finnish pop vocalist, Jenni Vartiainen first reached public awareness after claiming victory alongside two fellow female singers on the Finnish television talent program Popstars. That shared win prompted the trio to launch the group Gimmel, which issued multiple recordings and staged numerous concerts to considerable acclaim starting in 2002. The ensemble dissolved two years later once its concluding tour concluded. Vartiainen voiced plans to conquer the Finnish pop landscape independently soon after Gimmel’s dissolution, yet her first solo outing, the 2007 single “Tunnoton” (Numb), arrived only after an extended delay. The pause proved inconsequential for the emerging artist, whose debut full-length, Ihmisten Edessä (In Front of People)—sharing its title with the album’s second extracted track—entered the Top Ten upon its autumn release that same year.
