Biography
The six MCs comprising Ann Arbor, Michigan’s Athletic Mic League—Tres Styles, 14K, Buff, Vital, Texture, and Grand Cee—first crossed paths through high school and basketball courts. What began as casual rhyming among friends gradually turned professional once local listeners started acknowledging the abilities the crew was sharpening. They devoted their time to writing and tracking songs inside temporary setups rigged in dorm rooms and basements. In summer 1999 the group relocated to New Jersey to work alongside an entertainment lawyer who had taken interest after receiving one of their demos. While based in the East they performed shows, cut new material, handled promotion, and accumulated enough finished tracks for two albums. They later returned to Ann Arbor to release the Thrill of Victory...The Agony of Defeat LP.
