Biography
In 1992 the Australian pop outfit Bachelor Girl came together after multi-hyphenate James Roche—songwriter, producer, keyboardist and vocalist—crossed paths with singer Tania Emilia Doko. Roche had been assembling a demo for a composition aimed at the group Girlfriend; when the originally scheduled vocalist withdrew, he invited Doko to participate, and the encounter quickly evolved into an ongoing partnership. The pair set about composing and tracking material in hopes of securing a contract; after Sony passed, they signed with Gotham Records in 1997. The next year brought a string of singles along with the debut album Waiting for the Day, issued stateside by Arista Records under the title Breaking Through From Down Under. Before forming Bachelor Girl, Roche had already scored television projects and contributed keyboards and production to recordings by Glenn Frey, Christopher Cross and Tommy Emmanuel.
