Jennifer Paige first drew breath in Atlanta, Georgia, where her childhood unfolded. At eight she began appearing in neighborhood coffeehouses as half of a duo alongside her older brother Chance Scoggins, and two years later she took up formal piano study. Following a move to Los Angeles she joined forces with producer Andy Goldmark and started shaping her self-titled debut album in 1996. The project first appeared on the German independent label Edel before Hollywood Records brought it to U.S. stores in 1998; the record yielded the worldwide number-one single “Crush,” which became her signature success.

Entering the new millennium while still in her early twenties, Paige deliberately stepped away from the mainstream teen-pop formula that had propelled her to fame. Her second album, Positively Somewhere, surfaced in fall 2001 and signaled a more mature and nuanced artistic path. Audiences in Europe and Asia responded favorably, yet scant promotion limited its reach at home. Edel rushed out the 2003 compilation Flowers: The Hits Collection, after which Paige largely withdrew from the spotlight to write songs for other artists.

She resurfaced in 2008 with Best Kept Secret, an album that featured the singles “Wasted” and “Ta Voix (The Calling)” as well as the duet “Beautiful Lie” recorded with Nick Carter. In 2010 she formed the duo Paige & Palermo with Coury Palermo; together they issued the Stay EP in 2013 and cut two holiday covers, “Silent Night” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” the former of which appeared on Paige’s own 2012 seasonal collection Holiday.

After an extended absence and a 2015 crowdfunding effort, she delivered her fifth studio album, Starflower, in 2017.
