Bebeto Alves

Bebeto Alves, committed to the regional songbook of his native Rio Grande do Sul that encompasses zambas, milongas, and vanerões, issued his debut solo record, Bebeto Alves, in 1981. The single “Quando Eu Chegar” became a major success for him in 1984. Throughout the 1980s he moved away from the backing of his authenticity-focused regional listeners by folding pop and rock textures together with electronic instruments, thereby reaching a larger listenership. He also contributed to Porto Alegre Canta Tangos, an album that found strong reception in Argentina. Alves placed his twelfth solo album, Bebeto Alves Y La Milonga Nova, before audiences in several European cities in 2000.
