Biography
Sydney-based garage punk quartet Bed Wettin' Bad Boys came together after Nic Warnock, operator of the R.I.P. Society imprint, and Joe Sukit, bassist in Royal Headache, found themselves sharing time in Carburetor. Dissatisfied with the other members’ reluctance to rehearse, the pair began holding clandestine sessions of their own before electing to launch a separate project altogether. They enlisted Warnock’s younger sibling Ben, already active in Red Red Krovvy, and set about shaping material that fused combustible punk drive with an underlying pop sensibility. Operating initially as a trio that rotated instruments, they issued the 2010 single Best Band in Sydney/Worst Band in Sydney and the 2011 follow-up Nobody Else through R.I.P. Society. Seeking a permanent drummer, they auditioned several Sydney players, among them Shortty of Royal Headache, before settling on Doug Gibson, who acquired the necessary skills specifically to join. The configuration stabilized with Sukit handling guitar and vocals, Nic Warnock on bass and vocals, and Ben Warnock on guitar.
A 2011 U.S. tour alongside Royal Headache sharpened their attack, prompting a 2012 studio visit to capture their first album. R.I.P. Society issued Ready for Boredom in early 2013; its unvarnished force and melodic punch resonated with admirers of Royal Headache and comparable acts. Over the ensuing years the group maintained an active live schedule while Sukit continued recording and touring with Royal Headache, Nic Warnock kept steering R.I.P. Society, and Ben Warnock completed an album with Red Red Krovvy. The quartet also devoted studio hours with producer John Hunter to a sophomore effort that finally emerged as Rot in November 2017 via R.I.P. Society in Australia, What’s Yr Rupture? in North America, and Agitated Records in Europe.
