Biography
Electronic pop marked by shadowy tones yet anchored in dance rhythms forms the signature style of vocalist and online personality Bella Poarch. Her first appearance inside the Top 40 arrived with the 2021 release “Build a Bitch,” which opened the door to the 2022 EP Dolls. After teaming with Lauv and Kenia OS, she issued the 2024 single “Sweet Delusion.”
Born Denarie Taylor in the Philippines in 1997, Poarch spent her earliest years with her grandmother before being adopted at age three by a Caucasian American father and a Filipino mother. The couple brought her up on a Philippine farm alongside multiple siblings. Physical and verbal abuse marked her childhood, Poarch has stated, and the effects persisted after the household relocated to San Francisco and Texas during her teenage years. She joined the Navy in 2017 and completed a three-year posting that took her to both Japan and Hawaii. Once discharged, she began uploading material across social platforms and quickly drew notice through lip-sync clips that several times achieved viral status. Transitioning to original vocals, she secured a Warner Records contract in 2021. That year she unveiled her debut single, the darkly satirical “Build a Bitch,” whose lyrics address abuse and feminist empowerment. The track reached the Top 40 and appeared on Dolls, her first EP, which also contained the title-track single. Additional standalone songs arrived in 2023, among them “Crush” with Lauv and “Don't Like Anybody” with 6arelyhuman. In April 2024 she collaborated with Kenia OS on “F* Off” and subsequently joined OS as support on the Pink Aura Tour. The following October, Poarch previewed her forthcoming full-length album with the single “Sweet Delusion.”
