Betty Blowtorch delivers a profane edge to the more benevolent side of rock and roll. Displaying the fearless stance associated with Joan Jett alongside the abrasive vocal approach of L7, the hard rock quartet distinguishes itself through fierce independence and a readiness to provoke. Bass and vocals rest with Bianca Butthole, while Sharon Needles and Blare N. Bitch handle guitar duties and Judy Molish covers drums. Deeply immersed in Hollywood’s heavy metal and glam rock milieu, the group channels its energy into sexually charged fantasy anthems, a pursuit they have pursued since the late 1990s. Their independent debut Get Off appeared on Foil in spring 1999. The 2001 release Are You Man Enough? served as their assertive introduction on Foodchain, its tongue-in-cheek lead single “Size Queen” spotlighting Vanilla Ice reviving his earlier rap mannerisms. Midway through a tour supporting Nashville Pussy, both Molish and Needles exited in winter 2001, allowing L7’s Jennifer Finch to take their place. Tragically, Bianca Butthole died in a car accident in New Orleans in mid-December shortly afterward. In tribute to Butthole and the band’s raw punk spirit, Foodchain released the 29-track rarities set Last Call in May 2003. The collection gathered outtakes, demos, interviews, and live recordings, making it indispensable for devoted followers.
