Bill & Gloria Gaither

Bill & Gloria Gaither rank among the most enduring and widely celebrated acts in contemporary Christian music, having first joined forces on stage by joining the established Gaither Trio, where Gloria took the place of Bill’s sister Mary Ann. That group received induction into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1999.

Beyond their work with the trio, the couple also cut recordings as a duo and contributed to the Gaither Vocal Band. Bill has generated an extraordinary volume of original gospel compositions, releasing well over 500 songs, many of which quickly became staples of the modern repertoire. His long-running television series, The Gaither Gospel Hour, together with an extensive collection of videos spotlighting pivotal figures in Southern gospel, sparked a renewed surge of creativity in a style that had been losing momentum.

Collectively, they have issued dozens of albums, earned multiple Grammy Awards along with numerous Dove Awards, and Bill has been named the Gospel Music Association’s songwriter of the year on repeated occasions. The pair still reside only a short distance from the Alexandria, Indiana farm where Bill grew up. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Gaither launched no fresh ventures, instead sustaining the momentum of Gaither Homecoming and the Gaither Vocal Band; both remained active and well-received, while Bill and Gloria stayed rooted in his hometown of Alexandria, Indiana.
