Bobby Bloom's legacy centers primarily on the sweet, bubbly album Montego Bay from 1970, yet he also contributed significantly as a songwriter and entrepreneur tied to the Kama Sutra/Buddah labels. Among his engineering credits were sessions for Louis Jordan and Shuggie Otis. In collaboration with Jeff Barry, he established a producing and songwriting team that extended to a later Monkees release. His initial solo efforts, Love Don't Let Me Down and Count on Me, preceded the breakthrough success of Montego Bay. Subsequent releases adhered to that album's proven blend of pop, calypso, and rock elements, among them Heavy Makes You Happy along with the Barry-produced Bobby Bloom Album. Depression plagued Bloom in his final years, culminating in his death from an accidental shooting on February 28, 1974.
