Biography
Originating from South London, England, David Morris performs under the name Boy 8-Bit and built his profile as a British electro producer through extended-play releases that surfaced in the late 2000s, among them The Suspense Is Killing Me issued in 2008 on Mad Decent and Baltic Pine released in 2009 on This Is Music. His cited influences draw from French electro acts such as Daft Punk and Justice, British drum'n'bass artists including Dillinja and Ed Rush, Italian horror film soundtracks by Goblin and Claudio Simonetti, plus New York rap outfits like Wu-Tang Clan and Eric B. & Rakim. The producer entered commercial recording in 2005 when "Turboloader" appeared on Body Clap Sampler 1, the various-artists extended play that Touché placed on the Body Clap Records label. Recognition followed with the Mad Decent release The Suspense Is Killing Me in 2008, an extended play issued by Diplo, and continued with the four-track Baltic Pine extended play that arrived on This Is Music in 2009. Outside original material, Boy 8-Bit works extensively as a remixer and has completed multiple projects for Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records label, beginning with the 2004 rework of Touché's "Girl's a Freak" and extending to Armand Van Helden's "When the Lights Go Down," Cagedbaby's "Disco Biscuit," Gauzz's "Abracadabra (Round 'n' Round)," and Phunk Electric's "Video Games Crash." He also maintained a consistent series of DJ mixes offered as free downloads on his personal blog, covering everything from horror film music to tracks drawn from Street Sounds Electro compilations.
