Biography
Genre-bending rapper, singer, producer, and musician boyband constructs tracks through an unrestricted method that fuses rap production techniques, emo and alternative songwriting approaches, melodic pop hooks, and a pronounced stylistic debt to anime. Those elements fully merged on his 2021 sophomore album, never knows best.
Boyband joined the Dirty Hit roster to issue his first single in 2020. The track, "Death Note," merged rock and trap elements and featured guitar work from Good Charlotte's Billy Martin. Additional singles followed throughout the year and were later assembled into the full-length project alone in boyband. American Football's Mike Kinsella contributed to "big face," a pained piece built around gentle acoustic guitars and atmospheric samples layered over a trappy instrumental. In the following year the second album never knows best appeared, highlighted by the single "fooly cooly," whose creation drew direct inspiration from characters in Kazuya Tsurumaki's anime series FLCL.
