Biography
Formed in Toronto, Canada, during 1981, Boys Brigade operated as a robust pop/rock ensemble whose sound recalled the work of Wishbone Ash, Rush, and Little Steven. Malcolm Burn handled lead vocals and keyboards, Jeff Packer and David Porter contributed percussion along with backing vocals, Tony Lester played guitar and sang, Bill Brock sat behind the drums, and Wayne Lorenz anchored the bass. Though the lineup remained together only briefly, the group still issued a lone album along with the hit singles “The Passion of Love” and “Melody.”
Rush bassist Geddy Lee served as producer when the band tracked its self-titled debut in 1983. In addition to those two singles, the record featured tracks such as “Mannequin,” “Exodus,” and “Into the Flow.” Despite favorable critical notices and the strength of this first release, Boys Brigade disbanded soon afterward, before any follow-up album could be completed.
