Buck Wild began as a casual side effort launched by Shawn Dewey, guitarist and vocalist for Lagwagon. The music remained rooted in the driving, melodic punk style of Dewey’s main band, yet the sole aim was to function as a low-stakes party act. With friend Dave handling drums, the project cycled through multiple members before issuing the 1995 EP Little Punch You In The Ear on Lobster Records.

Once the debut full-length Beat Me Silly appeared the following year, Buck Wild evolved into a dedicated group after Dewey exited Lagwagon, freeing time for a European tour in 1997. The roster finally stabilized with Dave shifting to guitar, Brian taking the drum chair, and Thom covering bass. This configuration yielded the second album Full Metal Overdrive in 1999, after which the band disbanded shortly following its release.
