Calle Kristiansson emerged as a Swedish pop vocalist after gaining national attention through his appearance on the 2009 edition of the talent competition Idol. Born July 5, 1988, in Kristianstad, Sweden, the 21-year-old finished as runner-up that season, placing directly behind fellow rocker Erik Grönwall. During the show he delivered high-energy renditions of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell,” Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again,” Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” and Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” while also offering more subdued interpretations of Elton John’s “Your Song” and Tom Jones’s “It’s Not Unusual.” His strongest moments came when he leaned into classic rock, a style that defined his Idol run. One standout performance, Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis,” appeared on the season-end compilation Det Bästa från Idol 2009. Immediately after the finale, Kristiansson issued his self-titled debut album, an 11-track set of rock covers that climbed to number two on the Swedish albums chart and remained there for several weeks, blocked from the top position only by Grönwall’s own debut release.
