Biography
Born Candice Marie Giannarelli on June 23, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia, Candice Alley secured a major-label contract as a teenager and built a following as a singer and songwriter amid the usual industry obstacles. She had written her debut single, “Falling,” during her high-school years; that track anchored the demo she circulated among local independent labels in search of a deal. Universal, however, offered her a contract, re-recorded the song, and issued it in 2003. The single reached audiences across Australia and earned Alley nominations for Breakthrough Artist and Most Performed Single. Colorblind, her first album, arrived in October of the same year, yet disappointing sales and minimal promotional support created tension with the label. By 2004 she had parted ways with Universal and began seeking a more committed home. International Quarterback signed her in 2005, and in January 2007 the label released her next single, “Before You Go,” which climbed into the national Top 20. Later that year Alley issued her sophomore album, Candice Alley.
