Samantha Jade

Perth native Samantha Jade had already stepped away from a thriving modeling career across Australia by the time she launched her international pop career at 16. She first stepped in front of cameras at four, yet nine marked the moment she caught the performing bug, claiming victory in her debut talent competition with a rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Songwriting quickly turned into an obsession, leading to a breakthrough in 2004 when the then-16-year-old placed her composition “Secret Love” on the Shark Tale soundtrack. Although teen-pop sensation JoJo delivered that cut, Jade’s own commanding vocals soon appeared on the 2006 film Step Up, aligning the now-18-year-old performer alongside Ciara, Kelis, and Sean Paul. Her contribution, bearing the same title “Step Up,” received partial lyrics from Diane Warren and a production stamp from Wyclef Jean. Jive Records then positioned the infectious track as the lead vehicle for Jade’s forthcoming debut album, slated for release before year’s end.
