At the age of 12 in 2007, Bonnie Anderson claimed victory in the first season of Australia's Got Talent by delivering soulful gospel interpretations alongside a cover of Beyonce's Dreamgirls anthem, "Listen." Rather than launch straight into a solo path, the Melbourne pop singer opted to embrace childhood while sharpening her songwriting skills. She picked up industry insights during a stint as backing vocalist on tour with Scottish/Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes, yet otherwise stayed clear of public view. In 2012 she joined fellow Australia's Got Talent alum Justice Crew on a cover of C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat." Her debut solo single, "Raise the Bar," arrived the next year. The bright pop tone of that track shifted toward a more mature dance-pop palette on the 2014 follow-up "Blackout," which evoked the spirit of Katy Perry's "Dark Horse." Darker synth textures and a highly stylized aesthetic helped the song earn platinum certification on the Aria charts. She later joined U.K. pop singer Olly Murs on tour. In 2016 she issued the '90s-house-inflected anthem "The Ones I Love" together with the uplifting "Unbroken."
