Biography
Meg Mac is the performing alias of Australian neo-soul singer Megan McInerney, who entered the music scene in 2013 by posting two independent singles on her Triple J Unearthed page. Extensive Triple J rotation greeted the second of those songs, “Every Lie,” which in turn earned her the station’s Unearthed Competition and a New Year’s Eve slot at the acclaimed Falls Festival that December. Influenced by Adele and Amy Winehouse alongside classic soul figures Sam Cooke and Ray Charles, she gained wider attention throughout 2014 via additional singles, touring commitments, and preparation of her debut EP, MEGMAC, issued in June 2015. Strong Australian chart results for the EP brought Mac an ARIA Music Award nomination and showcased the hit single “Never Be.” Summer 2017 saw the arrival of her first full-length album, Low Blows, after its title track had already been released as a single. The 2018 single “Give Me My Name Back” ultimately found a home on her 2019 album Hope.
