Beginning his engagement with popular music through membership in the local ensemble los Chamos, Venezuelan singer/songwriter, actor, and dancer Carlos Baute later made his acting debut with a role in the Latin soap opera Destino de Mujer. Under the full name Carlos Roberto Baute Jiménez, he secured a major-label contract in 1994 and delivered the Afro-Caribbean album Orígenes I. The follow-up, Orígenes II, arrived in 1997 and featured the hit single "Te Quise Olvidar." After the successful Yo Nací Para Quererte and 2001’s Dame de Eso—which contained the Latin pop hit "El Angelito"—Carlos Baute rose to top-selling status in Venezuela and Spain. Peligroso appeared primarily as a digital download in 2004 and reached CD format in North America in 2007, coming after the 2005 release Baute and preceding the Warner Music-issued De Mi Puño y Letra, which climbed to number two on the Spanish charts in 2008. The first live album, Directo En Tus Manos, emerged in 2009, while the 2010 studio set Amarte Bien offered prime examples of the positive, uplifting music for which the singer was renowned.
